Here’s how to paint the plasma gun glow effect. It’s a quick and easy method to get the red hot glow no matter what colour you use.
The technique in this video uses an airbrush however you can use a brush if that’s all you have. Replace the air brushing steps with light dry brushing around where you want the glow to be. It should achieve a similar effect.

How to avoid your airbrush clogging when spraying the plasma gun glow
Best practice states that you press down for air and pull back for paint on a dual action airbrush. This is to avoid paint dripping into the nozzle and clogging it up in between spurts of air.
However, you’ll notice when painting the plasma gun glow effect I press for paint and air at the sametime. I cannot stress how important it is to use a thin consistency of paint when doing this and build up multiple layers. With good care of the airbrush and using a moist sponge I don’t have clogging issues.
I use a .35 needle for most things and work at about 25psi but sometimes it can be as low as 5psi up to 40psi.
Get to know your brush, do exercises like drawing circles and painting a consistent thickness of paint. You’ll learn what settings your brush needs in order to run effectively and not clog up.
