Welcome to Forge of Solus,
If you’re interested in skirmish gaming like Killteam and Warcry, painting miniatures and Warhammer AoS then you’re in the right place. I won’t be doing 24 hour painting challenges or building titans anytime soon. Just like you I’m a normal hobbiest. I make content to document my process and give back to a community that as given me so much enjoyment over the years. If you find at least one thing of interest here that perhaps help you enjoy your hobby time more then that is all I can ask.
About Wayne – the artist behind the Forge
It was winter of 1989 when a 9 year old Wayne was introduced to something called Rogue Trader. I knew nothing about wargaming at the time and only had heard of Dungeons and Dragons through a cartoon. Flicking through the pages of a copy I was introduced to the Grim Darkness of the 41st millennium. Though I never really understood how to play the game at the time I soaked up the lore and stories in the pages of that book giving me a taste for the vision of the far future presented in those well read pages.
Next came Space hulk, Space crusade and of course Heroquest. A triumvirate of games that was my real entry into to world of table top wargaming. I fell in love with the rich universes, far out worlds and the never ending exploration of a universe that was both familiar but utterly different to our own. As I explored it more my interest grew in the painting and modelling side of the hobby. The thought of exploring stories of characters out played against backdrops of alien worlds as trans human space marine fight for the glory of the god emperor of mankind, or an sage sorcerer toiling to find the answer to some ancient riddle to unlock untold power in the ancient ruins of a tyrants castle. The stories are infinite.
Over 30 years later I’m still here. More in love than ever with the hobby. These days I explore the same universes but through different systems. The sprawling armies that made up my hobby of yesterday have been replaced with skirmish games of Killteam and Warcry. The epic adventures of great generals controlling armies of troops as given way to skirmishes between elite warriors each named and with with their own stories, each game adding more history characters I have lived with in some cases now for years.
Through good and bad there’s been one thing consistent throughout my enjoyment of this hobby. This is my hobby… Come sit with me, let the flames from the fire chase away the winter chill and listen, I have a story to tell.
